About us · Made in Italy since 2016

Behind every shape, there is a story. Discover the world of Pastidea: our roots, our passion.

There is something special about Italian pasta. Every shape tells a story of tradition, preserves a connection to its place of origin and brings its own way of experiencing food. Some shapes have been passed down through generations, while others are born from a desire to experiment. Yet they all share the same ability to turn a few simple ingredients into something extraordinary.

Pastidea was born from this world of tradition, creativity and passion. We are an Italian company specialising in the design and manufacture of Made in Italy pasta dies. We combine precision engineering expertise with a love for one of the most iconic symbols of our culinary culture, creating products for both homemade pasta enthusiasts and industry professionals.

Since 2016, we have transformed a small project into a manufacturing company with a production facility of over 600 m², a catalogue featuring more than 200 pasta shapes and customers all over the world. But our story cannot be told through numbers alone. It is made up of ideas, important decisions, production challenges and people who, day after day, have helped shape what we have become. And to truly understand it, we have to start at the beginning.

01 · Our beginnings

Our beginnings: when a passion becomes a business

Every project has a starting point. Ours did not begin with a large production facility or a fully developed business plan, but with the curiosity to experiment and the desire to create something new.

Where it all began: the birth of Pastidea

The Pastidea story began in a garage, where a hobby fuelled by a passion for pasta and engineering gradually turned into an increasingly tangible project. At first, there were no large machines, production facilities or extensive product catalogues. But there was one clear idea: to make pasta shapes typical of professional production accessible to everyone, bringing possibilities that had previously been largely reserved for pasta factories into home kitchens.

This ambition gave rise to our first projects, with the aim of expanding the capabilities of home pasta machines and allowing every enthusiast to experiment with new shapes, rediscover tradition and make pasta with a professional appearance in their own kitchen.

Pastidea was officially founded in 2016. Initially, we focused on creating and designing pasta dies, while entrusting the actual manufacturing to specialised external companies. Our first shapes were designed mainly for Kenwood machines, popular among enthusiasts who wanted to make fresh pasta at home using shapes inspired by professional and semi-professional production.

The project began to grow alongside the curiosity of our customers. Dies for Philips Pasta Maker and KitchenAid soon joined those for Kenwood, followed over time by solutions for many other machines. Every new pasta shape was an opportunity to learn, refine our expertise and take on new design challenges. Before long, however, we realised that to fully develop our ideas, we needed to take another step forward.

From design to manufacturing: a decision that changed everything

Understanding a pasta die means knowing not only its shape, but also the material, machining processes and technical features that determine how it works. As our experience grew, so did our desire to oversee the manufacturing process directly. We no longer wanted simply to design pasta dies. We wanted to manufacture them ourselves.

So we decided to invest in machinery, equipment and expertise, gradually bringing the various production stages in-house. This decision allowed us to maintain more direct control over quality, experiment with new solutions and develop our projects with greater independence.

From a small shop to a production facility of over 600 m²

Pastidea’s growth was reflected in its premises too. From our first garage, we moved to a small shop and eventually to our current headquarters: a production facility of over 600 square metres in Caslino d’Erba, in the province of Como. In the meantime, what began as an online retail business became an established manufacturing company, capable of handling the design, production and marketing of its own pasta dies directly.

The size of our business, our equipment and our responsibilities have changed. What remains the same is our desire to improve, experiment and turn every new idea into something tangible.

02 · Our territory

The value of Made in Italy: our Italian roots

Where a product is made often says a great deal about the company behind it. For Pastidea, our connection to Italy is not simply a manufacturing choice, but an important part of our identity.

Caslino d’Erba: where tradition meets innovation

Our production facility is located in Caslino d’Erba, Lombardy, just a few kilometres from Lake Como. The area is famous for its landscapes, but also for a long manufacturing tradition spanning textiles, metalworking and precision engineering.

Here, we bring together two expressions of Italian craftsmanship: a passion for pasta and the technical expertise needed to manufacture our pasta dies.

For us, Made in Italy means much more than a place of manufacture. It means attention to detail, knowledge of materials and pride in a tradition that continues to evolve through innovation.

Badia, in the heart of the Dolomites: an identity open to the world

Our story is also connected to Badia in South Tyrol, where Formatre S.R.L., the company that owns the Pastidea brand, has its registered office. Nestled in the Dolomites, Badia is a place where three languages coexist: Ladin, Italian and German. This cultural richness reflects our natural openness to international markets, particularly Germany and Austria, which have been important since the early years of our business.

Today our pasta dies reach customers all over the world, and we provide support in Italian, German, English and French to maintain direct communication and overcome language barriers.

Our roots are Italian, but the passion that drives us knows no borders.

03 · The process

From idea to finished product: how our pasta dies are made

Have you ever wondered what goes into making a pasta die? At first glance, it may seem like a simple accessory, but the small openings that transform dough into spaghetti, rigatoni or more elaborate shapes are the result of research, calculations and precision machining. Every detail has a purpose, and even the smallest difference can affect the final result.

Design and development: where every new pasta shape comes to life

Everything starts with an idea. Sometimes it comes from a desire to rediscover a traditional Italian pasta shape, sometimes from the wish to experiment with original geometries, or from a customer who has something special in mind.

The first step is to study the shape, define its dimensions and assess its feasibility. Pasta may look remarkable, but it must also hold its shape during extrusion and be suitable for the machine that will produce it. This is where creativity and technical expertise need to find the right balance.

Once the design is complete, the idea moves from the digital stage into production. Turning, milling, sandblasting and precision machining: every step requires care, because the quality of a pasta die comes from the combination of all these details.

In-house production, from the first idea to delivery

We have also chosen to organise our company so that we can manage not only machining, but all the main activities involved in bringing our products to customers. This allows us to know exactly what we make and to maintain a constant connection between design, production and customer relationships.

We handle logistics directly, preparing orders for Italian and international customers every day. But our work also includes activities that often remain behind the scenes. We take our own product photographs, create content and communications, develop marketing activities and manage our e-commerce store, aiming to present every pasta die clearly and comprehensively.

Customer service also plays a key role. We know how important it can be to get advice when choosing a pasta die, check compatibility with a machine or understand how to prepare the right dough. We also share our experience through practical tips and guides, designed to support enthusiasts and professionals in making fresh pasta. That is why we strive to offer practical assistance based on experience and first-hand knowledge of the products we make.

From design and manufacturing to product photography and delivery: every stage contributes to Pastidea’s quality and identity.

04 · The catalogue

Over 200 pasta shapes: where tradition meets creativity

How many ways are there to shape pasta? For us, it is a question that continues to yield surprising answers. Italian culinary tradition preserves an extraordinary variety of pasta shapes, many of which originated in the customs and needs of different regions. Every shape has its own purpose, its own story and often a special connection to local sauces and recipes. Yet tradition is also an endless source of inspiration for creating something new.

From timeless classics to the most original shapes

Today, the Pastidea catalogue features over 200 pasta shapes, from the great classics of Italian tradition and distinctive regional varieties to original, surprising creations. Every shape is born from the desire to celebrate tradition or explore new possibilities, bringing together passion, creativity and innovation.

Exploring new shapes: where creativity meets engineering

Designing a new pasta shape means finding the right balance between appearance and functionality. Each geometry is carefully developed to ensure proper extrusion and preserve the intended shape. Our research never stops: we continue to experiment and develop new pasta dies because we believe the Italian pasta tradition still has countless shapes waiting to be discovered.

05 · Quality

Quality is a choice: materials, safety and certifications

The quality of our pasta dies comes from precision machining and the selection of materials suitable for food contact, ensuring reliability, functionality and safety.

Different materials for different needs

We offer pasta dies in various materials, each with its own specific characteristics:

Bronze and brass Made from a brass alloy suitable for food contact, these dies produce pasta with a rough surface, ideal for holding sauces.
POM A lightweight and practical engineering plastic that promotes smooth extrusion and produces pasta with a smoother surface.
PVD-coated brass Combines the characteristics of bronze-die extrusion with the convenience of a coating that also makes the dies dishwasher-safe.

To learn more about the properties of the different materials and our manufacturing choices, we have created a guide to pasta die materials.

Food safety and certified quality

Food safety is a priority for us. That is why we carefully select materials and invest in testing and certification. Pastidea holds product certification issued by ICIM S.p.A., a body accredited by ACCREDIA, confirming that the certified product types meet the applicable requirements for food contact (MOCA). This tangible commitment reflects our focus on quality, transparency and product safety.

Because quality is not just a promise, but a responsibility we take on every day.

Transparency is part of our commitment: that is why we make all information on our products’ compliance with food-contact requirements available

06 · Tomorrow

Our future: continuing to innovate without forgetting our roots

Since 2016, Pastidea has come a long way, growing not only in production but also beyond Italy’s borders. From our first shipments to Italy, France and Germany, our pasta dies have made their way into the kitchens of home pasta enthusiasts and professionals around the world.

Growing together

Throughout this journey, social media and, above all, the trust of our customers have played a vital role. Shared photos, recipes, tips and experiences have helped introduce Pastidea to an ever-growing audience.

Since 2020, we have strengthened our online presence, becoming a trusted point of reference for many pasta enthusiasts and industry professionals. Even today, conversations with the people who use our pasta dies are an invaluable source of inspiration, helping us improve and develop new ideas.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 10/10 – Impeccable quality, incredibly fast delivery and unparalleled packaging! I had an extremely positive experience with the order, so I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone! 🇮🇹❤️ I ordered the products from Italy and, to be honest, I didn't expect them to arrive so quickly. I received the package in just 3-4 days, which I think is a fantastic achievement, especially for an order from abroad. The entire ordering process was smooth and problem-free. And the quality of the products is simply unparalleled! From the first moment you can see that this is not an average product, but truly premium quality. The use of materials, the workmanship, the details and the overall effect convinced me to the fullest. I got exactly what I expected - and maybe even more. And what is worth highlighting: the packaging! 😍 When I opened it, I was simply amazed. Every detail was so tasteful, elegant, sophisticated and magnificent that even unwrapping it was an experience. It's clear that they don't just package the products, but they really care about how the customer feels when their order arrives. I think this kind of sophistication is really rare these days. Overall, I'm completely satisfied in every way. Fast, reliable service, fantastic quality, beautiful presentation and a premium experience from start to finish. I highly recommend it to everyone! ❤️ For me, this is definitely a 10/10 experience, both in terms of the product and the service. This was definitely not my last order! 🇮🇹✨
